Emmanuel Adebayo: … and his shocking ‘Juju’ story

By Onochie Anibeze

IT once happened to our own Daniel Amokachi.Voodoo men performed some
magic and Amokachi believed them. How Amokachi was charmed, conned

He had been injured while still playing in Europe. It was such a bad injury that playing football again seemed difficult. It was at this time, shortly after the 1998 World cup in France, that the Voodoo men asked Amokachi to place an egg in a white handkerchief and crush it. He did and pieces of metal emerged from this action. The Voodoo men told Amokachi that what he had in his hand were the replica of what were in his knee and that detractors conjured them into his body.
And they told him that sacrifices would have to be made to heal his knee so that he can begin to play football again. The sacrifices included parting with money and cars which would be used to appease some gods. He was also to buy goats and fowls for more fetish injunctions. And so began the swindling that cost Amokachi, the Bull of Nigerian football, hundreds of thousands of dollars he earned playing top class football in Europe. It was a sad chapter in his life.

How Neymar, Messi guide 10-man Barca to crucial

Neymar and Lionel Messi were on target as Barcelona produced a sensational first-half performance to take a huge step towards the La Liga title with a 2-0 win at local rivals Espanyol on Saturday.

The visitors dominated from the off and two goals in eight minutes sealed the win as Neymar and Messi rounded off excellent team moves.

Barca were reduced to 10 men early in the second period as Jordi Alba was given his marching orders for taking his protestations towards referee Mateu Lahoz too far.
But Luis Enrique’s men held on comfortably and could have even added to their lead had Neymar not blazed a glorious chance over 25 minutes from time.

Victory takes Barca four points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table with Los Blancos not in action until Sunday when they travel to Celta Vigo.

“I think we played the best first-half of the season in terms of dominating all facets of the game. We had the ball in their half, moved the ball well, created chances and pressed well after losing the ball,” said Enrique.

Caf set to elect new Fifa exco members

BraveheartNaija

Two new members will be elected as Africa’s representatives on Fifa’s executive committee on today. No Nigerian is in contention.

The Confederation of African Football congress is to choose its candidates for the all-powerful 25-man cabinet of world football’s ruling body.

Issa Hayatou
Tunisian Tarek Bouchamaoui and Constant Omari Selemani of DR Congo are favoured to finish top in the ballot.

They look likely to sweep Ivorian Jacques Anouma from the committee where he has served for eight years.

Delegates from 54 countries are also being asked to remove an age limit from the organisation’s statutes in order to allow Caf president Issa Hayatou to stay in power beyond the end of his existing term.

Caf requires officials who reach 70 to step down but a proposal to scrap the rule is expected to go through.
