Badagry (Lagos State) – A 29 year-old applicant, Sunday Suleiman,
appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Wednesday
for alleged theft of three tubers of yam valued at N1,200.
The accused, who resides at No. 2, Adewusi Street, Ajara Dokoh
Area of Badagry, Lagos, was arraigned on a one-count charge of stealing.
Prosecutor Innocent Uko told the court that the accused committed
the offence on April 4 at Agbalata Market in Badagry.
Uko said the accused stole the tubers of yam from one Yetunde
Ajala.
“He bought two tubers of yam from her but when she was not paying
attention; he quickly added three more to the ones he purchased.
“He was, however, apprehended before he left the vicinity,’’ Uko
said.
He said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of
Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty and his Counsel, Mr Remi Ajose,
urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted bail to the accused in
the sum of N20,000 and one surety in like sum.
Etti also ordered that the surety must produce evidence of tax
payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till May 6 for further hearing. (BraveheartNaija)
